About the Dean Village Association
The Dean Village Association (DVA) is a charity which was established in 1971 to represent the views and interests of residents of Edinburgh's Dean Village on the banks of the Water of Leith.  The aim of the Association is to make every effort to enhance the amenity of the Dean Conservation Area and thus improve the quality of life of village residents, whilst retaining the village's unique character.

Join the Dean Village Association
Annual membership for 2009 costs just £5 a year single or £8 couple. Concession rate for senior citizens, students or unemployed, is £2 single and £4 couple, or take out life membership at £35 single, £50 couple. Company/organisation membership is £50 a year.

A membership form is distributed with Dean Village News in February each year. If you wish to join at another time of the year, please contact Caroline Gerard.

The DVA is frequently approached to represent the views of the village community through local government consultation, including planning applications, service provision and conservation issues.  The Association also organises a range of community events which usually includes guided walks around Dean Village and Dean Cemetery.

Information about these events and other community news is published three times a year in the newsletter, Dean Village News.  If you wish to contribute to the newsletter, please email the text to David Perry.

How to get involved
The DVA is made up of village residents, who give a couple of hours of their time every other month to attend a committee meeting to help benefit the community.  We always need new people to join the committee so if you would like to become a committee member or to find out more about the work of the DVA, come along to our Annual General Meeting in April 2010, or email your enquiry to David Perry.

Our Chairman, Lawrence Walker, died suddenly on 10th September 2007.  He was the last miller of Dean Village, and he and his family operated Greenland Mill and Bell's Mills for almost a century.  A longer appreciation can be found here and a photograph of Lawrence taken at the door of Bell's Mills in 1970.  Read the article about Lawrence in the Edinburgh Evening News, published on 5th December 2007.
